How we helped a Church restore and update their sign
The Project
In May of 2025 we were contacted by a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Union City, Oklahoma to help them design a new and fresh look for their dated marquee. This is a 2 sided sign that is comprised of two 3/4" thick wooden sign boards placed back to back and affixed to two brick pillars. The sign was showing a lot of damage to both the structure and the wording on the plaque.

Creating the Artwork to Scale
The first thing we did was to ask the customer for the dimensions of the sign to which they replied with a rough hand drawn sketch with the dimensions in inches. In our sign design software we created a rectangle measuring 32" wide and 56" tall into which we placed the picture from the far left and then scaled it up until it fit the rectangle. Once done we knew we were in scale and could proceed to adding letters that would fit the space.

The customer wanted us to use the Old English font and that worked out to be 4" x 1/4" thick Aluminum Letters Painted Brilliant Gold. However, the letters for the two plates at the bottom of the sign were only 1.25" tall. Installing letters this small for a novice end user would prove challenging at best so we recommended that both plaques at the bottom were done as solid aluminum plaques with raised text. The background of the plaque would be painted black and the letters and crosses picked out in brilliant gold paint to match the letters. Here is the final recommendation rendered in color.

In all the total time spent going back and forth with this client using email and phone spanned over 3 months. There was no charge from us for the work done and in the end the client rewarded us with a nice order valued at $2933.72 for two identical sets of letters and plaques, one for each side of the sign. The sign itself was created by the customer whom also did all the work. We merely supplied the letters plus the two raised letter name plates. Below are images of the finished sign. Our customer is thrilled
